"Really great location just away from the crowds, but still close enough to everything, and the pool was perfect for relaxing. Being right next to the canal meant there was loads of birdlife, which was amazing for me as a wildlife photographer. Once the staff realised that, they went out of their way to point things out and even lent me a bike so I could explore nearby rice paddies and a local lake. They also offered free tuk-tuks into town, which was a really nice touch."

"Honestly, nothing really stood out as an issue during our stay. Everything was easy and comfortable, and the staff were incredibly helpful throughout. No real complaints at all."

"Stunning property just a nice distance away from the bustling little Marissa town. An easy 10-15 min pretty rural stroll with many friendly dogs gets you to the beach and restaurants etc. Superb, comfortable and beautifully designed yet also very relaxed. At night the gardens are light with magical fairy lights. It’s so beautiful."

"Only thing bad is the coffee its either spiced coffee or instant. Some regular filter coffee would make it perfect a perfect breakfast. The Chef was a lovely man too."

"This is the loveliest hotel we stayed in in Sri Lanka. The hotel itself is beautiful, inside the rooms were cosy and outside there is a really green garden and lovely pool. It's situated just on the river so you can watch the wildlife as you eat your breakfast (which is delicious btw!) The staff were sooo kind and friendly and really made our stay here amazing. They also offer a free tuk tuk ride into town. We were so sad to leave and can't recommend D Canal House enough!"

"This was a gorgeously maintained space. Each bungalow feels very private. The shaded pool area was perfect for afternoon naps after morning beach. Staff were super kind and attentive. The free tuktuk to and from the beach made it easy."

"It was a bit too far from the beach for popping back and forth. A hotel nearby played loud music on one of the nights- but still quieter than staying near the sea from."

"If you want a beautiful romantic hotel, set in lush tropical gardens, that transform into a fairy paradise at night, then this place is a definite. We were welcomed by Lahiru who speaks perfect English and made us feel so welcome. Indeed all the staff did, so pleasant and helpful. Breakfast is a buffet with lots of choice and if you fancy the beach it is only a short walk or a free tuk tuk ride. We had a wonderful stay, enjoyed every minute. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country with the most kindest of people who just want you to enjoy your holiday. "This hotel cannot be faulted. The hotel is stunning inside and out. The pool and outside space is beautiful, relaxing, grounding and surrounded by nature. The room is really quite stunning in a natural and wholesome way with its rich wood and heavy, high quality interior. The staff are just beautiful souls. They will do anything for you and are so very generous and happy. The breakfast is just perfect as so much choice and you can have as little or as much as you want. The scrambled eggs and bacon , fresh juice, papaya and home made jam is so very delicious. We felt so well looked after, cared for and safe. Tuk tuks and drivers were arranged for us very kindly, communication and WiFi were strong, the shower had a great pressure and water and all amenities needed are required. The bedding and towels are super clean and fresh. We wish them all the best for future. Thank you . We were sad to leave!"
