Located at Kilifi Creek, just 3 km outside of town and surrounded by a community forest, Distant Relatives Ecolodge and Backpackers features a secluded beach area, a punt de restauració and outdoor pool. The lodge offers different accommodation types, ranging from family and double rooms to beds in a dormitory or safari tents. The centre de benestarcious rooms feature custom made furniture and shelving. The waterproof tents feature a bed-side table and solar lights. Distant Relatives offers a communal kitchen. Meals can also be ordered from the bistrot and include vegetarian options. Cocktails and refreshments can be enjoyed at the bar. The lodge also offers regular live music events. Facilities at the lodge include outdoor bamboo showers, a private jetty, a library and a tour desk. An array of activities can be enjoyed on site or in the surroundings, including cycling, hiking, volleyball, sailing and darts. Visits to the nearby Fumbene village can be arranged. Distant Relatives is 45km from Malindi Airport and 50 km from Mombasa Airport. Airport shuttles can be arranged for a fee.

"You have to take a taxi or boda (motorbike) to get to the city. The kitchen could be bettwr equiped. The restaurant is too expensive, they should propose as well local food, not only italian."

"It’s amazing how nature blends in with this hostel. Rooms are very well designed and secured with a keycard lock which is great for security. Bed was comfortable and the place was kept well cleaned throughout. The pool is decent and you can easily walk to the beach from the hostel which is truly impressive."
"There was no lockers inside the room, even though the room is secure with a keycard lock but still a locker inside the room seems to be necessary. The food and drinks at the restaurant/bar is pretty expensive and there isn’t any option nearby to have food so you’re kinda locked in to eat there. The quality of the food is decent but they should offer more affordable options for backpackers."

"Like what many people have already stated in the reviews, there are many bugs and mosquitos in the rooms. Some mosquito coverage on the windows would be great. Shower was awful: very cold and water smelled bad. Also a big negative for us was that there is no breakfast included. The menu is not that cheap of a deal so a bit unfortunate."
