"Perfect location is the heart of Whakatane. It is a simple hotel, which feels a bit historic- I liked it for the 'blast from the past' atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and professional, and the pub down stairs is nice. Would recommend for a stop over stay rather than for a few nights though!"

"I booked a single room with private bathroom. Loved how central the hotel is - walking distance to shops, cafés and restaurants. My room was small but comfortable, a bit cold but had a heater which I definitely used. Bed was comfy and clean. Shower temp and pressure were also good. Very basic facilities so pays to have a good look on the website before you look so you know what you are booking. Would come back and stay here as a solo traveller again."

"If you are looking for an exceptional place to stay on the Coromandel peninsula, this is it. The Lodge is quite large with everything you could need: kitchenette, couch and TV, comfy bed, large bathroom (tub + huge shower), terrace and the a spectacular view of Whitianga! As you would expect, it was very quiet, and the layout is such that, that you can enjoy total privacy. Carol and Warren were very welcoming and we had a nice chat every morning with Warren as he brought us a lovely breakfast. The road up the lodge is fairly steep but it wasn't an issue at all, so if you have a decent car I wouldn't worry about it. While in our particular case, we didn't have the best weather throughout the stay, we appreciated that the lodge is furnished so as to feel like home, which made for a cozy day in. I could tell that there was a lot of thought put into the furnishing and decorating of the lodge!"
