"Location right at the beach, good breakfast, chill vibe. Close to a small supermarket and a few restaurants."

"For surfing you have to walk along the beach for 15-30 min (depending on the spot), so no surfing right at the hostel! AC turned off during the day (8am till 8pm). Free water tastes not good. Not the most social hostel."

"The location is amazing. The beach and hammocks and link with the surf school are all amazing. Special shout out to the owner Mario for his enthusiasm and excitement at people being in his hostel and surfing at Beginners Bay with him. Breakfast was great and the staff serving and volunteering were so kind."

"It was great that NicaVibes and the little supermarket took card this helped with the tricky cash situation at Popoyo. I have been pondering what it was about the manager that took the edge off my stay. I really believe they mean well... In Nicaragua I am so used to hostels saying 'Hi and how was your day?' A bit of Fake it until you Make it- would not go amiss! So perhaps it is not what is done, just the tone it is done in."

"I absolutely loved my stay at Big Surf House in Popoyo. The room was super cozy — I slept so well, and the curtains added a really nice touch. The air conditioning worked great, and the breakfast was honestly amazing. The vibe here is everything — right on the beach, perfect for swimming, surfing, chilling, and meeting people. It’s a very social place with great community energy. The free yoga class is a huge plus, especially if you surf. There are always lots of activities happening, and there’s this beautiful ritual of just catching the sunset from a nearby spot. The Wi-Fi works well, and everything feels so easy and laid-back. The volunteers are incredible — warm, friendly, and always up for a good chat. Big Surf House isn’t just accommodation, it’s a whole experience. Can’t wait to come back!"

"Good value. The dorm with AC was just perfect and not to cold at night. Common area is very chill, just by the beach. Breakfast included which is very nice. 10-15 mins away walking distance from the main breaks by the beach. Free yoga in the morning if you are into that (did not try it)."

"There are ongoing renovation works but they didn’t bother us. Because this is Nicaragua there are occasional power cuts but there is a generator for light and this is outside the control of the hostel. February is windy!!"

"This was one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in!! The upstairs girls dorm was soooo beautiful, and the vibes here are unbeatable. Super yummy restaurant, and right on one of the nicest beaches in the area with a gorgeous sunset every night :)"

"there wasn’t anyone at reception much, so it was a bit confusing when checking in. I think it was just a staffing issue which happens, and it really wasn’t a big deal at all!"
