Posicionated in Tissamaharama, the old capital city of southern Sri Lanka, Rain Tree by Oak Ray stands on the shores of the Tissa Lake. Rain Tree by Oak Ray is placed in a unique location with more than 50 species of both endemic & migrant birds, flocking together over magnificent cluster of massive rain trees at the Lake, right in front of the residència. The guests can enjoy a wonderful 360 degrees panoramic view over the lake, old temples and mountain ranges nearby, from a view point at the top of the hostal, which is 60 feet above the ground, At sunset the guest can enjoy a drink, (Sundowner) when thousands of flying foxes are leaving the rain trees and fly past the allotjament. The mansió arrange safaris to 3 national parks: Yala (Leopard, Bear, Elephant, Deer etc), Bundala (Birds), and Udawalawa (Elephants). The parks are 30 to 45 minutes away from the hostal (Udawalawe 75 minutes). Asian culture, history, archaeology and religion are encountered at the temples in Tissa, Kirinda and the holy town Kataragama, which Buddhist, Hindus and Catholics visit from all over the world. At Kirinda beach you can go for a swim in the Indian ocean.

"Unser Aufenthalt im "Rain Tree by Oak Ray" war insgesamt sehr gelungen, auch wenn es hier, wie man so schön sagt, "Licht und Schatten" gibt. Das Hotel ist mittlerweile etwas in die Jahre gekommen, aber wir haben uns dennoch sehr komfortabel gefühlt. Unser Zimmer war geräumig und hatte einen großen Balkon. Ein absolutes Highlight war der Aussichtspunkt des Hotels mit einem super Blick auf die Umgebung. Pünktlich um 18:30 Uhr konnte man ein unglaubliches Naturschauspiel beobachten: Unzählige Fledermäuse erwachten und starteten zu ihrer Jagd – ein wirklich faszinierender Anblick! Auch das Personal war durchweg sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit."
"Ein großer Minuspunkt ist jedoch das laute, veraltete Klimaanlagensystem. Auf dem Flur in der zweiten Etage befinden sich die Ventilatoren der Anlage, die extrem laut sind. Zunächst bekamen wir genau dort ein Zimmer. Die Reaktion des Hotels auf unsere Reklamation war jedoch vorbildlich und sehr positiv: Wir bekamen anstandslos ein neues Zimmer in der ersten Etage, und danach war unser Aufenthalt wunderbar und sehr angenehm. Wir können das Hotel durchaus empfehlen – allerdings mit der klaren Einschränkung, dass man ein Zimmer auf der zweiten Etage unbedingt meiden sollte. Ich hoffe, dass die Klimaanlage in Zukunft erneuert wird, denn das Hotel hat definitiv viel Potenzial."
