"The wetlands are obviously more threatened than when the lodge was first built- and the environment is less unspoiled that it clearly once was The property is clearly not being maintained well. The swimming pool area is unloved with broken tiles and unsafe decking The hot water is solar powered and does not really generate the pressure for a warm shower We learned that the hotel is now owned by an absent landlord- who lives abroad and has never visited the property- sadly it shows This place needs care and maintenance urgently otherwise it will fail to meet expectations"

"It was a privilege to stay in this lovely place on the edge of a local village … easy to explore the local area … food all freshly prepared and tasty … try the papaya salad … makes your mouth sing on a hot day . Staff were lovely , always able to help… location overlooking the wetlands was fabulous , not sure who was more surprised in the mornings … us or the water buffalo ! Take the wooden canoe across the wetlands with the local boatmen."

"Not a dislike at all but for others it maybe a bit out of the way. We stayed 5 nights and relaxed into the slow pace after Saigon city! Bit of a bumpy and jumpy ride from the main road but short lived and was worth it."

"This place is way more upmarket than what I am used to. I am a bicycle traveller and was looking for a place to overnight between Don Det and Pakse rather than ride all of it in one long day. I found Kingfisher Ecolodge on booking.com, I was hot and tired, it was getting late, so I went there. It is truly a paradise in the middle of nowhere. Overlooking a pristine wetland full of birds and wildlife, my huge room was luxurious. Massive bed and big balcony and windows with amazing view. Whisper quiet bungalow set in the forest. I woke to a spectacular sunrise viewed right from my private balcony. Restaurant serves western food for dinner, and breakfast is included. Lovely place."

"The shower temperature could not be controlled. Either scalding hot or unheated. Bicycle travellers beware, the road to get there is awful. From the main road it is about 7km on Route 18 to the turnoff to the lodge. This is a dusty gravel nightmare with large trucks throwing up so much dust, sometimes you can't see. Everything gets filthy and you arrive covered in dust. Dust chokes your throat, your nose, your bike, everything. This is the price you pay for the paradise you have when you arrive."

"Very unique place to stay in Laos. Completely quiet, like a green oasis in the middle of nowhere. Everything in the rooms is very clean, comfortable and beautiful. Most calm spot in Laos, perfect to enjoy a couple of days in the nature. Right in the wetlands so the sunsets are stunning to enjoy with a boatride in the canoe. Food is also very good. Staff is extraordinary friendly and helpful. Would totally recommend 10/10!!"

"We loved the location, the room, the staff and the activities we did while we stayed there. Breakfast was great and we enjoyed our stay immensely. The location overlooking the wetlands provided wonderul sunrises and sunsets and we were there for a full moon too. Lovely walks into the village and the forest. We also had a wonderful experience doing the cultural celebration activity. Wonderful welcoming, warm and kind staff and local people."

"Some unused areas on the property are getting a bit run down. The pandemic affected the area badly and the Lodge and therefore some things that were listed on the website were no longer available. The staff were great and not to blame for the property not being properly maintained or that the website was not updated with the current situation and the price adjusted accordingly. It is a shame the owner, who i think owns multiple properties, doesn’t appear to value this unique property."

"This is an exceptional place being a part of a serious environmental project worthy of support. It is off the beaten track and the road there is challenging. You are probably best to go for the deluxe villas. The staff are friendly and helpful, the food simple but good."

"The beautiful setting, waking up with amazing views of sunrise and waterbuffalos, just from my own bungalow! During my two days stay, I was the only guest there, so it was really nice and quiet. At night watching the stars from my private terrace, with nothing but the sounds of nature. The staff was very nice and friendly. I got a free upgrade to a better bungalow, with airconditioning, which was very nice. The bungalow was nicely designed with a good and comfortable bed. Next time in Laos I will definitely visit this place again!"
