"El Retiro es una gran finca en el medio de la naturaleza, justo cerca al Río que pasa por Lanquín. Nos gustó mucho la experience, la habitación e el lugar en si, lleno de servicios, como Tours, bar e restaurante, y funcionarios amables, siempre dispuestos a ayudar."

"We really enjoyed our stay at El Retiro! The staff were so helpful organising shuttles to and from Lanquin and tours. The tour to Semuc Champey was a real highlight! The private room was spacious and clean. Bathroom was basic but consistent hot water in the shower. The communal area is nice along the river and has a nice vibe (although music can be a bit loud at times) but a good spot to hang out (also has free WiFi here). Decent food menu for a hostel and good value for money. We were also able to do laundry here too. Great spot to enjoy Lanquin and the surrounding areas - would recommend!"

"Minor point, but music can be a little overwhelmingly loud in the bar/ restaurant at times and no real need when people are just hanging out."

"So pretty to walk around & the hammock outside the bedroom! Great breakfast choices with nice views. Great facilities also! Easy to book transfers & staff were super helpful"

"I loved this place and wish I had more time to just chill here. The lodge is exactly as in the photos with a beautiful garden and access to the river for swims. The bar has a variety of food options, the rooms were comfortable and spacious, with warm water and good beds. Very quiet at night - I absolutely loved it! The staff is also so warm and welcoming."

"The room was very basic and I had no pillows (only decorative ones), asked for them the next day. Own porch with a hammock are nice. The bar and swimmingpool on the other hand were lovely to hang out. Nice setting at the lakeside. Very helpful personnel. They offer a good Lake tour with a free beer in the bar at the end!"

"Vibe was very relaxed, sometimes a bit too relaxed because we had to wait quite long for transportation to the nature reserve and shuttle buses."

"Beautiful property in a good location Booked our shuttle from Flores through them and received a free shuttle from the busy station to the hostel Friendly staff Booked semuc chamber tour with them and had Otto as a guide which was great! And had a very small group which meant we could go as fast or slow as we wanted. Private rooms were spacious and toilets were close. Hot showers were lovely and the food in the restaurant was reallly tasty Hostel was quiet in evenings which was nice as we heard other son area were loud all night"

"We were told the shuttle to bus station was free and that reception should respond all the time however after 9 reception shuts and didn’t reply to texts. We only got told on the day we left that the shuttle back to bus station isn’t available even if we offered to pay but was available if we booked our bus through the hostel so we had to wave down a TukTuk with all of our bags last minute which was a bit frustrating when the shuttle was already going there anyway with our friends and had room for us. Every other hostel in area seemed to have free shuttles both ways too."

"This place is great. The staff are friendly and accommodating when requiring assistance. The food is fresh and tasty, and the drinks are reasonably priced. The Wifi can only be obtained from the restaurant bar area. This area is a fabulous and functional communal area. There is a pool table, a table tennis table and games available as well. You can swim in either the pool or the wonderful river. If you want to have some fun try the tubing down the river rapids; great fun. There are plenty of hammocks in the garden area if you just want to read a book."
